Julie St-Pierre, Vice-President, Research and Innovation – UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA

The Board of Governors of the University of Ottawa approved the appointment of Julie St-Pierre as Vice-President, Research and Innovation, for a five-year term from June 19, 2025, to June 30, 2030.

With 15 years’ experience in institutes of higher learning, Julie St-Pierre notably served as a Full Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology of the uOttawa Faculty of Medicine and Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry of McGill University, before joining the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation, in 2023.

Julie St-Pierre is a renowned researcher in the field of cancer and metabolism. She is especially interested in how metabolic vulnerabilities in breast cancer can be used for therapeutic purposes. She formerly held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair for this research.

As Interim Vice-President, Dr. St-Pierre demonstrated leadership and expertise in terms of the direction and delivery of research support services for the entire University community. She also conveyed a strong vision for research development, promotion and recognition, in the humanities and the sciences, and for strengthening support for researchers through development of their scholarly interests and fields of expertise. Her skill, judgment and spirit of collaboration with the University of Ottawa research community and external partners has led to some notable achievements.

Under her leadership, there is no doubt that the University will be able to build on the progress we have achieved, continue to move forward in our fundamental mission of research excellence and enhance our reputation as a high-intensity research institution.
